Volga-Dnepr Airlines was established in 1990 in Ulyanovsk, Russia.
By 2000, it had become the world leader in outsize and heavy air cargo transportation when it achieved a market share of 56%.
In addition to ten An124-100s, Volga-Dnepr operates a fleet of Ilyushin IL-76TD (Stage II), IL-76TD-90VD (Stage IV) and Yakovlev Yak-40 passenger aircraft.
In 2004, the Volga-Dnepr Group launched a scheduled cargo airline, AirBridge Cargo. The company now operates a fleet of B747F aircraft between Europe and Asia as well as ad-hoc charter flights.
