At the end of 1990, Antonov Airlines became a key supplier to the United Nations, ferrying refugees and supplies prior to the outbreak of the first Gulf War. In March 1991, they became the first wide-bodied operator to land in Kuwait following the end of hostilities.
Ten years later, Volga-Dnepr Airlines became the first civillian operator to land in Kabul following the events of late-2001.
Both airlines remain at the forefront of peacekeeping support, with a third of An124-100 flights operating in this theatre.
This support does not only encompass military material though; Ruslan International also operates on behalf of international governments and NGOs flying aid to those in times of trouble.
