The An124-100
Originally designed as a replacement for the An22, the first An124 prototype flew on December 26,1982. This was superseded in 1986 by the first production aircraft.
A total of 56 An124s were built at the Antonov complex in Kiev, Ukraine, and at the Aviastar factory in Ulyanovsk, Russia.
Although production ceased after the break-up of the Soviet Union, the Aviastar plant delivered the first of three new airframes to Volga-Dnepr Airlines in 2000.
The new aircraft incorporated design changes to increase service life from the original 7,500 hours of earlier aircraft to 24,000 flight hours.
Further An124 derivatives have been proposed for commercial service. These include the higher payload An124-100M and -100-150 versions, and the next-generation An124-300.
