Ruslan International assists in the one of the largest UK military logistics operations since the Second World War
19-September-2008

In the height of summer 2008 with temperatures consistently over 30 degrees, Ruslan International embarked on one of the most significant operations it has conducted in recent years. The operation required the airlift of various components from their storage location near Kabul airport to Kandahar in southern Afghanistan, the final destination – the Kajaki Hydroelectric Dam in the heart in Taliban territory in Helmand Province. Previous assessments at surface transportation were discounted due to the difficult and hostile terrain en-route which almost certainly would have resulted in casualties whilst travelling at slow speeds with heavy outsize cargo. In partnership with Agility’s Defence & Government Services division an airlift study and subsequent operation was conducted, but with tough operating conditions such as high temperatures, daylight-only operation and high terrain, the flights were challenging. In total six flights were conducted routing via Pakistan to deliver the power-plant equipment to NATO forces for their onward surface transportation to the Kajaki Hydroelectric Dam site. The NATO/ISAF Acting Director wrote to Ruslan International to express his thanks for our support in this critical mission.
